Born from the deepest pits and caverns of Tartarus comes forth the ultimate
blasphemy "Acheron". Following the left hand path and blasting out some of the most
brutally evil Death Metal is the only way for the bands founder and driving force, the
Reverend Vincent Crowley. Here follows an in depth discussion conducted in mid
Anno Satani 33.
CRUSADER: Explain your links to The Church of Satan.
REVEREND: I am an official representative and Magister for the CHURCH OF SATAN. ACHERON
also spreads satanic propaganda within our literature. We support each other.
CRUSADER: Do you see Metal as being Satanic by nature? Do you see Metal purely as a way
to spread Satanism or is it a love of the music that drives you? What is The Church
of Satan's viewpoint of Satanism in Metal.
REVEREND: It depends on who's playing it. Metal itself is not "Satanic" unless a
demonic element fronts it. The music does drive me, but my lyrics contain real
diabolic songs. As for the CHURCH OF SATAN, they think that it also depends on the
artist who creates the music. So is Metal Satanic? Yes and No.
CRUSADER: How do you feel about the Black Metal bands that say that "La Very Satanism",
that which was developed by Anton La Very, the founder of the Church of Satan, is "life
worshipping" and not true Satanism? They call it "Hollywood Satanism"!
REVEREND: I laugh at them since "they" are the ones portraying "Hollywood Satanism".
Sure Satanism is the celebration of ones own life, that's the most Satanic thing a
person can do. We are gods and our pleasures come before anything/anyone else. In
Hollywood so-called Devil Worshippers are always doing some kind of drugs, sacrificing
animals or people, and destroying graveyards and churches. Gee, that doesn't sound like
anyone from the CHURCH OF SATAN to me! We use more intelligent means to get our points across.
CRUSADER: I have heard of a version of "Satanic Victory" that features the nine satanic
statements as performed by Magister Peter H. Gilmore, my CD version does not feature this,
is there such a version and is it available? What Acheron releases are available and where from?
REVEREND: We released a limited 1000 copies CD called "Hail Victory" on METAL MERCHANT
RECORDS, which contained 2 extra songs and intros by Peter Gilmore. Presently, the only
official CD's still being made are "Anti-god, Anti-Christ" on FULL MOON PRODUCTIONS. All
the older stuff is harder to obtain
CRUSADER: About the new album "Those Who have Risen", seems to be highly "Vampiric" in
Nature, how is that related to Acheron's music as a whole?
REVEREND: It's occultist roots stemming back to the ancient Vampiric society of UR mixes
well with our dark music. It is still very Satanic in nature, but it is something different
than anything I wrote before.
CRUSADER: I see that "Those Who Have Risen", contains support vocals from David Vincent
of Morbid Angel and Corpsegrinder of Cannibal Corpse. Why did you include these vocalists,
and will you do any work with them again?
REVEREND: Both of them are friends of mine and I admire their vocals very much. I felt
that their contribution would be an added bonus to the new CD. As for working with them
again, this was just a special guest appearance for "Those Who Have Risen".
CRUSADER: Your upcoming "best of" compilation CD, "Compendium Diablerie", features cover
song by Venom and Bathory. Which songs did you choose to cover, and why did you choose these songs?
REVEREND: We recorded "Raise the Dead" from BATHORY and "Countess Bathory" by VENOM. I
chose these songs due to the fact that ACHERON used to cover these songs when I first
formed the band in 1988.
CRUSADER: How would you describe your music, do you associate with Black Metal or Death
Metal and which bands inspired you to create this music?
REVEREND: I hate labels, but many people call us Black Death Metal, which is a combination
of both. I just prefer to call ACHERON Satanic apocalyptic Metal. The main bands that
influenced me were MERCYFUL FATE, VENOM, CELTIC FROST, DESTRUCTION, SLAYER, MOTÖRHEAD,
ALICE COOPER, OZZY OSBOURNE, MANOWAR, W.A.S.P., and the mighty BLACK SABBATH.
CRUSADER: Your track "Total War" contains the line "Throw out Christ, and bring back Thor",
does this betray a certain belief in Northern Mythology, or not? That song is called a
"Boyd Rice 'NON' cover song", please explain this?
REVEREND: Sure, it says to remove a weak mythological character and replace it with a
powerful one. Boyd Rice's band NON originally created "Total War" and we covered the song
because I thought it had very powerful lyrics.
CRUSADER: Your name, Vincent Crowley, are you in any way related to Alistair Crowley? How
do you feel about his writings?
REVEREND: I don't think I am related to Aleister Crowley, but I do enjoy some of his
writings pertaining more towards the Darkside. He was an interesting individual.
CRUSADER: You seem to have appeared on TV many times in confrontations with christian
leaders, tell us more! Do you feel this controversy helps your band?
REVEREND: I enjoy giving the Christians Hell, while they promote the likes of my band.
You could say we use them and they use us. Either way we are still being seen by the
Christian parasites. This lets them know they don't scare us.
CRUSADER: Acheron seems to have been released by dozens of underground labels! What caused
the recent split between you and Moribund Records? Why did you then choose Full Moon
Productions to release your album?
REVEREND: We left MORIBUND RECORDS due to the fact that they couldn't put out "Those Who
Have Risen" in time. we departed on positive terms, but we needed to release the album.
Thorns from FULL MOON PRODUCTIONS showed a lot of interest in putting it out, so I decided
to sign a one album deal with them. Thus far I am very pleased with the results.
CRUSADER: Not counting Acheron, what would you say is your favourite lyric line from any
band? (mine is "Sweep these dogs from our Kingdom" by Manowar "Holy War"
REVEREND: I would have to say the song "Holy Hell" by POSSESSED. "Devil's water starts
to flood, God is slaughtered drink his blood!"
CRUSADER: What would you like to do to the Spice Girls??
REVEREND: Most likely the same thing you would do to them!
For interests sake I have decided to print the "Nine Satanic Statement" as said by
Peter Gilmore, out of The Satanic Bible". Copyright is held by the Church of Satan.
1. Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence.
2. Satan represents vital existence instead of spiritual pipe dreams.
3. Satan represents undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit.
4. Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it instead of love wasted on ingrates.
5. Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek.
6. Satan represents responsibility to the responsible instead of concern for psychic vampires.
7. Satan represents man as just another animal -- sometimes better, more often worse
than those that walk on all-fours -- who, because of his "divine spiritual and
intellectual development," has become the most vicious animal of all.
8. Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification.
9. Satan has been the best friend the Church has ever had, as He has kept it in business all these years.
The Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth, were written at about the same time, as the nine
Satanic statements, but were then considered too frank and brutal for general release and
issued only to the membership. Here is the Lex Satanicus, a law of the jungle for social
interaction:
1. Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked.
2. Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them.
3. When in another's lair, show him respect or else do not go there.
4. If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat him cruelly and without mercy.
5. Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.
6. Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the other person
and he cries out to be relieved.
7. Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your
desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you
will lose all you have obtained.
8. Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself.
9. Do not harm little children.
10. Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.
11. When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to
stop. If he does not stop, destroy him.
